Our spoken English language courses are carried out to help you achieve your professional goals. They are tailor-made to increase your active and passive vocabulary, grammatical correctness and fluency as well as your rhythm and pronunciation.
Through this increase in skill, your confidence will grow. There is no fixed ratio to the elements mentioned above; it depends very largely on your progress and the skill of your coach, who will be expert in maintaining a good balance. This is one of the reasons for our success.
Ongoing dialogue
Your goals are not only your coach’s point of departure, they are the point to which he frequently returns to check that you are acquiring precisely the skills you need to achieve your goals. If you feel you are not, you will discuss it with him and he will make any adjustments you both agree to. This ongoing dialogue is essential for you to achieve your goal. The learning material is chosen to help you progress rapidly towards your goals and is often taken from appropriate sites on the net. All exercises are chosen specifically for you, the learner.
The learning process
Our coaches are skilled and creative in structuring the learning situations so you will learn as quickly, effectively and enjoyably as possible. The emphasis is on effective communication in English, not on grammatical correctness. Fluent, easy and confident communication are goals we will help you achieve through dialogue, subtle correction and rehearsal.
As a learner, you may have to show your coach around the factory, give a presentation about your department or give a guided tour of the local neighbourhood – all of them without warning. You will not be left swimming without a life-belt however. Even though you will be challenged, there will always be support close by. Through meeting these challenges successfully and rehearsing further, you will rapidly build confidence, which is the key to achieving your goals…confidence based on progress.
Coaches and learning
How will your spoken English improve quickly? One way is by having an effective role model. When we learn our mother tongue we learn it not from teachers but from our family – we learn it from role models. We imitate, first our parents, our nearest family and then anybody else who is around. Your coach will be a native speaker. As you imitate, you will naturally pick up the pronunciation and rhythm of English. It is here many Danes have problems. How to speak with an intonation that is different from the monotone of the Danish language? By listening and imitation. The coach will spend time rehearsing you in those patterns of intonation you have difficulty with. Good pronunciation and intontation are perhaps more important than correct grammar, if you wish to create impact and interest your listeners when you are speaking English.
Not only will you have an excellent role model but you will have a coach who is very experienced in structuring situations to stimulate your learning. The very way he asks you questions will always challenge, but never depress you. You will be encouraged to take a few risks with your language, but the risks will not be too great. Only by being challenged will you progress.
